Posted by The A100 | November 24, 2021

The A100 is pleased to announce the appointment of Samanta Jovanovic as Executive Director of Start Alberta, effective November 17, 2021.

Initiated by the A100, Alberta Enterprise Corporation (AEC), the Venture Capital Association of Alberta (VCAA) and in collaboration with a wide group of community partners, the new Start Alberta deal flow platform was re-launched in June 2021 as part of the A100’s growing operational portfolio.

As the most comprehensive database on startups and funding in the province, Start Alberta shares insights on the growth, dynamism, and overall health of the regional innovation economy while showcasing the Alberta startup ecosystem to the world.

“We’re delighted to introduce Samanta to the Alberta tech community in her new role with Start Alberta,” says Tamara Woolgar, Executive Director, the A100. “Her experience and dedication to helping advance Alberta’s innovation economy is perfectly suited to leading Start Alberta’s strategic vision in this next chapter.”

Samanta joins Start Alberta after two years with the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) at Calgary Economic Development. At OCIF, she was responsible for conducting due diligence, structuring terms, and executing funding agreements. Samanta collaborated with multiple government levels to articulate the opportunities to help mature Calgary’s innovation ecosystem.

Following her passion for climate finance, Samanta began her career in the Strategy & Operations and Sustainability & Climate Change practices of Deloitte Consulting, then spent time as an Associate with the Cleantech Group in San Francisco. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Energy Management and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, both from the University of Calgary.

“On behalf of the A100 Board of Directors and our member community, I’m pleased to welcome Samanta as Start Alberta’s first Executive Director, leading the platform’s goal of expanding coordination and access to Alberta’s tech and investment industry and beyond,” says Aaryn Flynn, Chair, the A100.

The A100 would like to extend sincere thanks to Christiana Manzocco, Director of Industry Development, AEC, for her valuable work as Interim Lead, Start Alberta, over the last two years.
