On October 23 in Edmonton, Calgary-based Mikata Health received the 2019 A100 One to Watch Award at the Start Alberta Tech Awards. Selected from a group of 12 nominated startups, the A100 One to Watch Award is presented to an Alberta up-and-coming tech company that is considered most likely to succeed.
Mikata Health is a digital health company whose mission is to help patients and doctors work together for better health by designing tools that give patients convenient access to primary care.
“Healthcare is one of our biggest and most expensive industries,” says Kyle Nishiyama, CEO & Co-founder, Mikata Health. “We believe that, through technology, we can transform how care is provided for both Albertans here as well as for patients worldwide.”
“We moved from New York City back to Alberta to start Mikata Health because we believe that the entrepreneurial spirit in this province would make it the right place for us to build our company,” adds Mikata’s COO & Co-founder, Meaghan Nolan. “Alberta is full of smart and highly skilled people — particularly in emerging fields like artificial intelligence — and they’re ready to take on the world’s biggest challenges, like the ones we face in healthcare.”
“This award is really an honour for us,” says Kyle. “And it’s particularly encouraging to have that vote of confidence from the A100 members who have been there and built their own successful businesses.”
Now in its second year, the Start Alberta Tech Awards recognize individuals and organizations for their contributions to Alberta’s innovation ecosystem and the significant impact they have made on the province’s tech sector.
